Girls Discovered

Global girls facts

Globally, many children lose their parents to HIV/AIDS, or become separated from their caregivers as the result of armed conflict. Across the developing world, more than one in seventy girls is head of their household. Taking on the responsibility of the family means that girls often have to leave school and look for work to support their siblings.

In Yemen, one in twenty girls is head of their household, responsible for earning an income, keeping the home and taking care of younger children.
